What is the 179D Deduction?
The Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings Deduction, or 179D Deduction, rewards architects, engineers, and subcontractors for energy efficient projects on tax-exempt or some private sector properties.
Companies can receive up to $1.88 per square foot for improvements that exceed current energy thresholds. Due to changes in the Inflation Reduction Act, the deduction's maximum reward has increased from $1.88 per square foot to $5.00 per square foot for qualifying projects from 2023 onwards.
